Funny you should be asking this as I've just been carpeting the new house. I can't afford for people to come and do it so have been doing it myself.

I've been shopping around for remnants to get it cheap, but with a big room like you have it's hard to find them as most remnant carpets are 4 metres (13 feet) at their longest.

I had been looking around in quite a few places, mostly local shops first, then on a whim I went to Allied Carpets up Westwood (near Staples) and they have a big sale on. I got some great carpet 4mx4.6m (13footx15foot) for only £42. That was the cheapest though.

You can buy gripper rods in Wilkensons for £3.99, Wickes for £4.99, and Focus £5.99. These come in 8x5ft packs.

Underlay will be your problem as most shops make a lot of money on these. I bought mine online at http://www.carpet-underlay-... which worked out at about £2 a square meter for felt underlay.

Of course I fitted this all myself and you will need a carpet knee kicker, stanley knife etc to do the job.

If you don't want to do this yourself then I'd recommend Olivers Carpets on Ramsgate Road near Up & Running, and I reckon they could do all this and fit it for you (with cheap carpet) for around £130-£150.

well i have found a nice little new shop that has recently opened along park road called pickwicks just up from the bakery thay beat olivers buy a considrable amount and i worked it out that thay only charged for the rem and no fiting fee was put on and it worked out that i was charged only a pound a yard for underly which was amazing so if u looking for quotes definatly include pickwicks

A great way to save on carpet might be to look at carpet tiles! They are super easy to install as well. If you look hard enough, you might be able to find a dealer that would have a small lot in stock that would be enough to do your room. Your room size is perfect for a smaller sized lot of tiles so you can probably strike a bargain! Here are some examples of <a href="http://www.owencarpet.com/d...">Discount carpet Tiles</a>.
