Thanet Star - actively improving Thanet one idea at a time

Titillating Poster Conflict

A hairdresser from Ramsgate has been ordered by Thanet District Council to take down a billboard poster of his wife because it shows "so much cleavage".

Mr Marino said: "It's my wife, she's beautiful, and why not?"

He added: "With the recession, everybody's struggling and it's just nice having something more lively and modern."

But apparently the Ramsgate Society think differently. As Mr Marino did not get planning permission for the poster Thanet District Council have (of course) up held the complaint.

Jocelyn McCarthy, of the Ramsgate Society, said it was distasteful to show "so much cleavage on a public building".

Maybe Peter Checksfield should do a photo shoot there!

I see this on my way to work in the morning and it does brighten up a rather bland and drab looking town - he should be allowed to keep it up - Its lovely and as its a picture of his wife he is proud of it and rightly so - Shame on Jocelyn McCarthy for wanting this removed - maybe she is too ugly to have her picture on a wall and a bit jealous of it - has she got nothing better to do than moan about something that cheers people up

Er, Jocelyn's a man Sir Head. In fact he's the closest Ramsgate's got to a Nelson Mandela figure.

That says it all then really doesn't it - Didnt know Jocelyn was a bloke - Inferiority complex for havin a womans name and not liking beautiful things - I know i shouldnt say things like that in this day and age but come on its a lovely poster. If Jocelyn Mandela doesnt like it then he should get his eyes tested like the real Mandela - maybe we should put a picture of Winnie Mandela up instead.

Jocelyn did not say what you are reporting.

The BBC admitted their mistake and have amended their website accordingly

I had to look very carefully to find the change. Apparently the BBC shot off too soon. People had complained to the Ramsgate Society (rather than Ramsgate Parish Council or Thanet District Council

@huddi1 Short thaw expected Monday then freezing conditions. Expect lots of road ice. Could get stuck at a friend's house for a while.
