Thanet Star - actively improving Thanet one idea at a time

Matt's scrap book - Sketches of Sandy E.

This man has no ears
Having met with a number of Thanet Star readers and found that my doodle of Sandy E under the water was one of the most popular things I've come up with recently I thought it might be nice to open the floor to readers old and new and invite you to share your art work on a strongly Thanet Related theme.

To share your artwork please make sure that they are a JPG, JPEG, GIF or PNG format file. You can email it to Matt along with who you are and a little bit about you. We will endeavour to share the art, funny sketches and other images created by you guys and gals of Thanet right here on Thanet Star.

To kick things off with here are some more cartoon like attempts to depict the current "leader" of the local council that I did not feel were up to the grade of being part of a suitably funny image.

Sandy carpet
No one likes getting sand on their carpet so the sandy carpet's sketch I felt was an easy target. However, I'm a perfectionist and did not feel I had captured the "big nose and no ears" well enough.

The original is bigger than this but I don't want to drown you in my doodles.

Keep reading to see more.

Sandy E, Thanet Star Sketch 001
This is the first cartoon style sketch I tried to do. I did not feel it had come out all that well and "binned it" and tried again. I was focusing on the most obvious characteristics of Sandy which was a prominent nose, large shiny brow and an almost complete lack of ears.

This is my attempt at sketching with colour. While I felt I got the shiny forehead and piggy eyes down I was not sure I conveyed enough character to be clear who it was.

As you know in the end I went with a more realistic style. It was still fun to experiment though. A new caption contest will start soon as will voting for the winners of the last one.

One of the next few caption contests could be your work if you think you can make a funny image (Royston Robertson we all know you are up to the task so what about it?). Feel free to drop us an email with your photographic, drawn or digital art work about Thanet.

NB While I can convert from most file formats it can be a lot of faffing about so the nearer things are to the right format to start with the easier it is to publish. Also some formats can look very poor if converted from in a hurry and I don't want your work to look bad.

NB Please feel free to share things about yourself but don't feel you have to say more than you are happy with. I will only be giving out your first name and town along with perhaps your blog or personal website (if you wish). I can say more if you want or less if that much information makes you feel uncomfortable.
